3 Reasons to Upgrade Your Ductless System in Jupiter, FL
Ductless HVAC systems can provide a wonderful amount of portability and versatility to homeowners in Jupiter, FL. For all their power, however, they can occasionally experience problems and may carry a few drawbacks. Here’s how you know it’s time to upgrade your ductless system and address these issues.
1. Age
The simplest and most important reason to upgrade your ductless mini-split is that your current system is just too old. On average, ductless mini-splits can remain effective for about 20 years, assuming they receive annual maintenance and repairs when necessary. After your system ages beyond this point, its functionality will likely begin to decline noticeably, and more efficient alternatives will almost certainly be available.
2. Increasing Energy Bills
One impossible-to-ignore consequence of diminishing system efficiency is an increase in energy costs. In some cases, this increase can be both severe and sudden.
It’s common for energy costs to increase when your HVAC system declines because your thermostat may attempt to force your system to generate the same results as before, causing it to use more energy. Since the system no longer works well, achieving this result will be nearly impossible, meaning that your mini-split will consume more energy.
3. Poor Insulation
Standard central HVAC systems often have insulated ducts to prevent air leaks and lessen heat loss. Since mini-splits don’t have ducts, they don’t need this feature, but that doesn’t mean they don’t use insulation. Instead, the insulation will usually exist on the refrigerant lines in a mini-split.
The purpose of this insulation is to prevent damage to the line, maintain the temperature, and minimize condensation. If you fail to do this and a damaged line causes the refrigerant to leak out, your system won’t be able to work. After asking a maintenance technician to replace the lost refrigerant, you may end up having to upgrade the insulation to ensure that the problem doesn’t occur again.
